In February of this year, the Harris County Courthouse Bay Area Annex that has long served as our monthly meeting place, will close for extensive renovations for about a month. The county is considering establishing new hours when the courthouse annex reopens, closing all offices after 5 p.m. for security purposes. If this occurs, BAND will need to find a new meeting place. Watch this space for updates!
Six referenda will be on the Democratic Primary ballot in Texas. These items are non-binding, but it's nice not to be surprised when you arrive to vote. Also, you will know you have a Democratic Primary ballot when you see these!

With the Houston city elections behind us, we turn our attention to the 2016 Presidential election year. In Texas, the Democratic Primary will be on Tuesday, March 1. Note that there is no longer a convention at the precinct polling place on the night of the election. Instead, the precinct convention will take place on the same day as the Senate District Convention on Saturday, March 19.
Early voting for the Houston city election runoffs begins Wednesday, Dec. 2 and continues until Tuesday, Dec. 8. Voters can cast their ballots at any early voting location within the county, but on Saturday, Dec. 12, they must cast their ballots only at their precinct polling place. At the November meeting, Bay Area New Democrats voted to endorse six Democrats who will be candidates in the Saturday, Dec. 12 runoff elections. The candidates and the offices they seek are:
Sylvester Turner - Houston mayor
Chris Brown - Houston city controller
Georgia Provost - Houston City Council at-large
David W. Robinson (incumbent) - Houston City Council at-large
Amanda Edwards - Houston City Council at-large
Sharon Moses - Houston City Council at-large 5
It's a change of venue for this year's BAND Holiday Dinner party. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Monument Inn (near the San Jacinto Monument), 4406 Independence Parkway South in La Porte 77571. Dinner tickets are $30 per person. Houston Mayor Annise Parker will be recognized for her service to the City of Houston.
