Marty Morrison, director of community outreach for the Harris County Tax Assessor Collector and Voter Registrar's Office, will be the featured speaker at the June BAND meeting. Morrison will train BAND members to become deputy voter registrars for the 2010 elections. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at the Harris County Courthouse Bay Area Annex at 16603 Buccaneer.
Organizing for America (OFA) has announced its plans to engage voters early in the year as the best way to ensure their participation. On Saturday, June 5, the Vote 2010 Kick-Off Event begins at noon at the Freeman Memorial Library at 16616 Diana Lane.
The OFA goal is to get as many of the 15 million folks who voted for the first time in 2008 back to the polls. Across the country, OFA volunteers will knock on doors and make calls in their communities, reconnecting with first-time 2008 voters and asking them to commit to vote again this November.

The Galveston County Democratic Party and the Texas AFL-CIO are jointly sponsoring the Democrats and Labor Rally to Support NASA Jobs at 7 p.m. Friday at the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex, 1251 League City Parkway (SH 96) in League City. The event will feature food and drink, entertainment and speakers. The public is invited.
