Democratic voters in the area will return to the polls for the primary runoff in each still-contested race for the party nomination on Tuesday, May 24. Please see harrisvotes.com to find your Election Day polling place. Sites used for early voting will be used again on May 24 but not in the same way. Usually, during early voting, voters can cast ballots at any early voting site within the county. While those sites will be in use again, voters will have to go only where their precincts are consolidated, usually at the closest spot used for early voting, but not necessarily.
Sign-in for the Senate District 11 convention this Saturday, March 19 begins at 9 a.m. at the IBEW Hall at 4345 Allen Genoa Rd. in Pasadena. To pre-register for the convention, visit register.txdemocrats. Because Texas Democratic Party rules have changed, what was once the Primary-night precinct caucus no longer exists. Now precinct chairs will be in charge of their caucuses that take place on the same day and at the same place as the Senate District Convention.
Following the Nevada caucus, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Houston on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a free, public Get Out the Vote Rally to encourage supporters to vote early and to vote in the March 1 Texas Primary. The event will be 6:45 - 10 p.m. at the Recreation Wellness Center on the Texas Southern University campus, 3100 Cleburne St., Houston, TX 77004. Because the Harris County Courthouse Bay Area Annex is closed for renovations, this month's BAND meeting will be at the Freeman Branch Library Community Meeting Room at 16616 Diana Ln., across the parking lot from the courthouse. Don Rhorer, who for many years has scheduled our meetings at the courthouse, said the Freeman Community Meeting Room is left of the front entrance, the same room where early voting occurs. The room was not available on the second Wednesday of the month, our usual meeting day, so we will meet on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
In February of this year, the Harris County Courthouse Bay Area Annex that has long served as our monthly meeting place, will close for extensive renovations for about a month. The county is considering establishing new hours when the courthouse annex reopens, closing all offices after 5 p.m. for security purposes. If this occurs, BAND will need to find a new meeting place. Watch this space for updates!
