Juvenile court candidate to speak at February meeting

Leah Shapiro, candidate for judge in the 315th Juvenile District Court, will be the guest speaker at the next BAND meeting. Shapiro, an assistant public defender in the Juvenile Division of the Harris County Public Defender's Office, has also worked in the county District Attorney's office and as a private defense attorney. She is a founding member of Creating Acceptance Recovery Empowerment (CARE), which works with victims of sex trafficking and their families as they rebuild their relationships and lives. Shapiro has no opponent in the primary but will try to unseat a Republican incumbent in November.

The BAND meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day) at the Freeman Branch Library Children's Activity Room, 16616 Diana Ln., Houston 77062.
